John Zink® Vapor Combustion System

Design Features

John Zink builds and tests equipment packages in a controlled environment to optimize installation costs. Careful understanding of vapor control applications and combustor design is built into every Vapor Combustion System. Our network of dedicated facilities and alliance shops ensure quality craftsmanship and on-time delivery to locations anywhere in the world.

Combustor Design

Combustion chambers and burners are carefully sized. Materials are selected to meet operating conditions and emission requirements. Zink's proprietary anti-flashback burners are designed specifically for the safe combustion of explosive air and hydrocarbon mixtures that are unsuitable and unsafe for standard burners. Specifically, our proprietary burners are designed to prevent flashbacks using a technology similar to that used in flame and detonation arrestors. Primary combustion air is supplied to the burners, while louvers supply secondary air to maintain the proper operating conditions. (Note: text link to lower area on page)

Energy Efficient Pilots

Reliable, energy efficient pilots provide a stable, continuous ignition source for the primary burners. Each pilot is equipped with an automatic ignition assembly and a continuous flame monitor. The pilots include specially designed mounting hardware for easy field adjustment.

Detonation Arrestors/Liquid Seals

Detonation arrestors are supplied for secondary flashback protection. The detonation arrestor is a passive in-line device that quenches a flame by absorbing its heat. Alternatively, a liquid seal can be provided in place of a detonation arrestor. The liquid seal uses a fluid barrier to prevent flashbacks. Primary safety controls prevent these devices from being used during normal operation.

Vapor Blower Package

In situations where the vapor piping system has too much pressure drop, a vapor blower package can be supplied. The vapor blower package provides a single integrated system to transfer and combust the vapors. Zink's designs incorporate the important features needed for safe operation of blowers in vapor control applications.

Master Control Panel

A master control panel provides primary operator interface with the vapor combustion system. The panel features a programmable logic controller, flame detection relays, easy-to-operate switches and buttons, and first-out annunciation for convenient indication of system status. Motor starters are also provided for rotating equipment. Zink's master control panel is skid mounted to allow factory installation and testing prior to shipment.

User-Friendly Design, Easy to Operate

Enclosed combustors can be skid mounted, so nearly all the combustor components, instrumentation, wiring and piping are installed and tested at the factory. The John Zink combustor is fabricated in two pieces that flange together in the field. The bottom portion is skid mounted while the top section is shipped loose for field installation. Skid mounting of the combustor simplifies the installation and significantly reduces installation costs.
