John Zink Company Expands Test Facility to Enhance
Full-Scale Steam Flare Testing Capabilities
TULSA, Okla., Nov.
6, 2006 John Zink Company, LLC, the world leader in developing advanced
combustion technologies and environmental solutions, has expanded its flare test
facility to enhance steam flare testing capabilities. John Zink's facility can
test steam-assisted flares at full-scale conditions and is the first of its
kind.
Many flare applications use steam to minimize smoke formation during
operation. John Zink's steam test facility is designed to supply steam at a rate
of more than 100,000 pounds per hour. The steam supply is fully automated, and
steam can be supplied to a flare tip over a wide range of flows and pressures.
This capability allows testing that simulates real-world conditions.
Testing steam-assisted flares gives us the opportunity to optimize
system performance, extend smokeless capacity and reduce steam consumption,
which translates into lower operating costs, said Dr. Roberto Ruiz, vice
president of technology and commercial development at John Zink. Additionally,
we are using the facility to help evaluate noise and heat radiation reduction
concepts.
The steam test facility is a permanent installation that includes a
dedicated boiler, steam supply network and controls.
